Tax Code Software Foundation :: Mission
The mission of the Tax Code Software Foundation (TCSF) is to create the world's best royalty free, open sourcesoftware for tax preparation, e-filing, and tax record keeping. The Tax Code software can be used by taxpayers, professional tax preparers, community tax services, and government revenue collection agencies.
By "best" we mean easiest to use, most accurate, most extensible, most powerful, and most secure. We continually judge our work by these criteria, and invite others to do the same.
The TCSF's product is tax software; the TCSF's market is taxpayers, professional tax preparers (CPAs, Enrolled Agents, and unenrolled preparers),and goverment revenue collection agencies who offer services direct to taxpayers. We provide a royalty free open source code base that delivers essential tax preparation and efile functions for United States territory Federal, State, and local taxes. TCSF also invites other jurisdictions to use our tax forms technology abroad. We make it possible for tax professionals(tax attorneys, certified public accountants, and enrolled agents) to add to the Tax Code base, through the addition of forms and worksheets. We also offer developers the opportunity to extend the functionality of Tax Code Software, or adapt our technologies for to meet their applications needs. We subject our code to the public review of all tax professionals We listen to developers and their users regarding the kinds of problems they want to solve, and we work with them to create technologies that solve those problems.
We showcase the work of such developers, whether they be open-source or commercial. We document our code in a clear, accessible fashion, and we show developers how standard XML markup languages can solve problems and help them innovate.
We value freedom, openness, public service, and good technical design. All of our work occurs in public forums among an open community of technical experts, led by the Tax Code Council. The output of our work is openly available and freely usable. And we strive to ensure that it always meets the highest standards of technical excellence.
The Tax Code Software Software Foundation (TCSF) is a sponsor-supported, not-for-profit membership organization that fosters freedom from expensive tax software solutions through the continuing development of royalty free, open source tax preparation and electronic filing software and by supporting the growing community of Tax Code Software-based projects and companies.
The TCSF develops software for taxpayers and professional tax preparers. It also provides organizational and technical assistance to projects and organizations within the Tax Code Software community including private and public sector developments. In particular, the TCSF, led by the Tax Code Council, manages the Tax Code Software through documentation of standard technologies used by the software and ratification of enhancements. The TCSF also runs a number of email lists for developers, server administrators, and end uses, as well as providing the public Tax Code Software self preparation and e-file server for taxpayers at taxcodesoftware.org.
